Even though I didn’t travel to this year’s convention in Burbank, several members of the Xena Online Community (XOC) made the pilgrimage to the Burbank Airport Marriott January 25 – 27.
It seems to have been a pleasant experience for many first time convention goers and veterans alike. For some, it was their first Burbank Convention after having attended over conventions last year (Secaucus and Chicago).
However, like with most Creation Entertainment conventions, something always seems out of whack with how they do things. In all fairness to Creation, I think it’s how they have to do things because of laws and other things they have to contend with when hosting a Convention.
This time around, there seems to be an issue with the music videos. In the past, participants have been able to submit on two videos. The only caveat was that only one video could win. This year (2008) they changed to only allowing one (though some did submit two videos). Somehow, someone managed to win twice apparently.
Now, I’m not going to sit here and call into question Creation’s thinking. Perhaps, they didn’t know they had awarded gift certificates to the same person. (Giving them the benefit of the doubt and no doubt, they’re looking into the issue.) Nor am I going to call for them to be crucified. There are worse evils in this world (Davis Merchandising being the biggest culprit) when it comes to ‘Xena’ licensees. I can only hope Creation gets to the bottom of the issue and fix it.
Were you at the 2008 convention? Let me know your thoughts. Also, be watching this blog over the next year as I post updates to the 2009 Convention held at the LAX Marriott. I'll be there, with bells on! :D
