Xena's demise on Oxygen

It strongly appears now that Oxygen has removed Xena: Warrior Princess from its programming schedule for the foreseeable future, if not permanently.

In the past when they've ceased airing the episodes, it was normally to give the series a break. It generally takes about four and half months to run through the entire series. That means in a year, they can sometimes get the series in three times.

The information comes from a reliable source, confirmed by the fact that the recently revamped website no longer has a mention of the series or even a page. Confirmation of the news that the show may be off the network for good is out and should be known in a couple of days.

When the buyout by NBC Universal was announced earlier, the information released hinted NBC's desire to revamp the network with different content.

NBC buys Oxgen for $925 million

Why it wouldn't be a good thing to move 'Xena' off of the Oh! Network

NBC Universal has purchased the Oxygen Network for a paltry $925 million. What does that spell for 'Xena' fans who watch the show on the network? Hopefully nothing.

A lot of fans are clamouring for the series to move over to the Sci-Fi, Bravo, or USA because those networks are in more homes, etc. What these fans fail to realize is that Oxygen has the rights until 2009.

But no only that, Oxygen doesn't edit the episodes. If it goes to Sci-Fi, USA, or Bravo be prepared to lose two to four minutes in each episode. That's right. Edited for time and content. Oxygen doesn't do that to our show.

So ask yourself now, do you want to keep the full episodes on Oxygen or do you want some jerk off in an editing lab deems inappropriate or waste. Think about it.

I posted about the purchase of Oxygen last week.

NBC Uni buys up Oxygen

NBC Universal has acquired the Oxygen network for $925 million according to the LA Times. The independent network was launched seven years ago by Oprah Winfrey, Geraldine Laybourne and TV producer Marcy Carsey.

The network struggled to find viewers since its launch in 2000. NBC plans to pair it's programming with Oxygen's audience in hopes to increase exposure to the struggling network.

Oxygen currently airs reruns of "Xena: Warrior Princess" weekdays at 7am EST.

What does this mean for the show? Probably nothing, maybe more exposures across NBC's family of networks which includes USA Network, Bravo, and Sci-Fi Channel.
