Ash vs Xena: Comic Book Redux

The first issue of Ash vs. Xena was released on March 25, 2008.

I blogged my opinion on this earlier. I haven't check out the issue yet. I'll pick it up this weekend if I'm out and about and the comic book place still has copies available.

Anways, the second issue should be later this month.

If you've picked it up, let me know your opinion.

Ash vs Xena or How much more can you destroy two classic franchises

In case you missed the 'hyped' announcement last week, Dynamite Entertainment announced that in March, they'll release the Army Of Darkness/Xena crossover comic book.

The announcement (which they claimed was surprising) hardly blew me way. It was rumoured after the launch of the Xena comic books in 2006 that there might be a chance for a Ash/Xena crossover (which, ahem several fanboys and fangirls foamed at the mouth for).

Now, to each his on this, but personally the writers at Dynamite need to be spanked with a wet noodle and plastered with saran wrap for coming up with something so silly. It boggles the mind that some twit at Universal actually sold the license to those people.

Even Rob Tapert said that he's not happy with how they handled Xena. And Sam, Bruce and him aren't happy with how they've handled Ash and the Army of Darkness franchise.

I say to those us that care about good quality Xena stories that are original and don't rely on crossovers to write to Dynamite Entertainment and demand they sit down with fans and find out what works and what doesn't work.

Xena comic returns in May (hopefully)

Dynamite Entertainment keeps saying that Dark Xena #1 (as compared to Xena #5---don't ask me to explain---it's too confusing) will be released in May.

We'll see. They're telling me middle of the month.

'Xena' comics 5 - 8 delayed till mid-2007

Who here did not this coming? I mean really, it's been almost three months since the last "real" comic issue, what's another three or four or at this rate, sox months??

For immediate release (okay, so it was a few days ago. I'm a little slow at processing news):

XENA ISSUES #5 - 8 RE-SOLICITED

Crucial "Dark Xena" Storyline Well Worth the Wait

February 07, 2007, Runnemede, NJ - DYNAMITE ENTERTAINMENT announced today that they are rescheduling the "Dark Xena" storyline (schedule to begin in Xena issue #5) and will be re-soliciting the issues beginning in the May Previews.

Dynamite explained, "While we do realize the inconvenience of canceling and re-soliciting, we hope that fans and retailers understand that this decision was made out of our dedication to quality and our loyalty to the property and fans. Response to Xena has been overwhelming as fans seem to truly recognize and appreciate the devotion and labor that our creators pour into each issue. We remain committed to the high standard that fans have become accustomed to-- especially when it comes to Xena, since the Warrior Princess has some of the most dedicated fans we've ever seen! In order to fulfill our commitment, we needed to take this step, and thank the fans and retailers for their continued support.

Continued support? Yeah, making us wait six months into between continued storylines is loyalty. With the annual (heh, say that outloud) released in late January, there's been little word from Dynamite Entertainment about the delay.

Then suddenly, oh yeah, we should mention this that if you wait another three months you'll get a better comic.

If Xena is still the bodacious buxom I'm gonna puke. The only loyalty here folks is the 'Xena' fans. Because Dynamite Entertainment surely isn't sending any our way.

If they're going to do four comics a year, then SAY IT. Don't keep promising us and then fail to deliver. What's FUNNY is that a couple weeks prior to the announcement from Wednesday, Febuary 7, is that they said issue #8 would be released in March.

I laughed. I was right.

If you read the full release you get the impression that they're begging people to stay with them because of the extended delay. (Full press release here). The delay apparently stems from DE moving the artist Fabiano Neves up to another comic book they're doing with Marvel Comics.

I just hope, this extended wait is worth it.

A slight chuckle: I had to laugh at the high standard remark. I guess Xena being a triple D is a high standard.

Peace out. Don't kill any pigeons, billy goats, or flies. You might be killing a relative.

Annoying having to wait

One of the worst things about these new comic books from Dynamite Entertainment is having to wait months and months for the new "issues" to come out.

All they can offer is a simple: It hasn't been released yet.

Well, no frakking 'duh. I'm asking why it's delayed and all you can give me is a circular answer. Tell me something I don't already know Einstein.

With Topps and Dark House, they came out every month. No delays. NOTHING. They got the comics out on the same time, every month.

That concept is apparently lost on Dynamite Entertainment. Write to them at info@dynamitentertainment.com and ask them why are the comics delayed yet again and tell them how much you don't appreciate them being delayed. If you complain, they might get "hint" and clean up the ship, before it sinks.
